Pakaraima Mountain Inn

Pakaraima Mountain Inn

Have you ever gotten the strong urge to run far away from civilization and just spend time on a
mountain surrounded by vast savannah, greenery and hills? Have you ever wanted to take a quick break
from life to unwind? Well, me too and luckily, the Pakariama Mountain Inn is just the perfect spot to do
that. Before my first visit to this amazing lodge, I had no idea that this place even existed and in seeing
the place- it baffled me, because the beauty one can experience on their visit to the Pakaraima
Mountain Inn is surreal.
The lodge is located in the north Rupununi, just outside of the Yakarinta Village in the Aranaputa, its
location is what Guyanese would say is “in di middle of nowhere” since it’s far away from city life and is
at least a 9-hour drive from the Lethem Linden Road.
Between the beauty surrounding this lodge and the hospitality by the hosts, I cannot choose which one
outweighs the other.
Though climbing up the mountain to the inn may be tiring, standing at the edge of the spot that carries
the inn is one of the most breathtaking experiences, the view from there captures the Pakariama
Mountain range and the village of Yarakinta.
The Pakaraima Mountain Inn, consist of a cool sitting area where one can relax, enjoy the scenery from
the mountain top and the ever-blowing breeze that nature has to offer. The rooms are very detailed and
captures the essence of the indigenous way of life but my absolute favourite part of visiting this tourism
destination in Guyana is the food! I can still remember the pepper-pot meat melting in my mouth and
the tasty cook up prepared by Mr,Defreitas’s wife and to top it, as we devoured the delicious meals, we
were entertained by Mr. Defreitas and his guitar. I was impressed to say the least, Mr.defreitas sang
away to a few of his original songs that captures his life as a young Guyanese boy. It was like nature,
beauty, deliciousness and talent all merging at The Pakariama Mountain Inn.
Though there are many other exciting and fulfilling experiences that can be explored at the Inn, such as
bird watching, canoeing in the river and climbing mountains, I hadn’t gotten a chance to do that but it’s
definitely on my list and revisiting this little hide away spot is also on my list.
